Overview

No one ever imagines that they're having a stroke, let alone preparing for one. If the unthinkable ever happens to you or to a loved one, City Prime Health is here for you from the early stages of rehabilitation and beyond.

A stroke is a sudden disruption in the blood supply to the brain. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the brain is blocked, causing cells to lose oxygen and die. Strokes affect the vascular (heart) and neurological (brain) systems and may require both cardiac and neurological care for successful treatment.

There are two types of strokes:

  1. the ischemic stroke blocks the artery that leads to the brain.
Hemorrhagic strokes occur when an aneurysm bursts, causing bleeding in and around the brain.
  2. Another type of stoke, called a temporary ischemic stroke or mini stoke, is caused by a temporary clot.

If you or a loved one has a stroke, call 9-1-1 immediately. Don't drive yourself or your loved one to a hospital. Call 9-1-1 to get specialist emergency care on your way to the hospital. It counts every minute.

A stoke can be a life-threatening event, so get some help as soon as possible. The more you or your loved one go without support, the greater the risk of permanent disability. However, if you get to the hospital quickly and get the right treatment, you have a much better chance of a smooth recovery.
